Hot food connoisseurs in Berlin should mark upcoming Saturday, May 30th, with a big red X in their calendars. At the 2nd Annual “Horsemeat Optional” Chili Cook-Off chefs from various Berlin restaurants will compete with one another for the best chili dish in town. PODS & PROLIFERATION: Princess Pepper Project in July

Over the past month the outdoor and greenhouse chilli plants at Prinzessinnengärten have been going heavy on the production of foliage, flowers and pods.

The ritual dance I mentioned at the end of my last post did apparently have an effect. Ever since early July the Berlin weather has been fair and sunny with temperatures in the mid twenties to even mid thirties on the Celsius scale.

To the plants this obviously came as a blessing. While the greenhouse ones have been thriving ever since they had moved there in mid May, some of the chillies in the outdoor raised beds had initially taken some damage from attacks by sun, rain and snails. Most of them have fully recovered by now and have entered into their generative phase. Continue reading

GERMINATION, GROWSTATION & GROWLIST – Princess Pepper Project

An effective way to germinate seeds, a new grow-station, and a truckload of plants already growing. The Princess Pepper Project is currently rolling fine in both Berlin and Leipzig.

The Princess Pepper Project has been making some delightful progress since my last post. My fellow grower Onkel Hotti over in Leipzig and myself in Berlin have now got almost 140 plants of close to 60 varieties going that we’ll be planting out at Prinzessinnengärten, a communal garden in Berlin, in May 2014. Our goal are 100+ plants from 70+ varieties of chillies, and if things keep falling into place we’ll be there in a week or two. Continue reading
